Free English pronunciation checker
Type or pick an English sentence, say it out loud, and see word by word what speech recognition heard, with a short tip for each missed word. Free, no sign-up, works in your browser.
How it works
- Pick a sentence Type your own (up to 300 characters) or tap one of the examples. Press play to hear it first.
- Say it Press the microphone and read the sentence out loud. Press it again when you finish, or it stops by itself.
- See what was heard You get a score out of 100, the words that were heard and missed, and for each missed word a tip about the sound (th, v/w, l/r, final consonants, stress).
Quick answers
Is the pronunciation checker free?
Yes, and it needs no account. There is a daily limit on AI requests per learner so the service stays free for everyone.
How does it check my pronunciation?
Speech recognition writes down what it heard, and Lin compares that with your sentence word by word. A word that was not heard as written counts as missed, and a model suggests the most likely cause.
Does it check single sounds (phonemes)?
No. It works at the word level: it tells you which words a listener would likely miss, not a score for each sound. Treat it as a guide, not a test.
What does the score mean?
The share of your sentence's words that were heard as written, from 0 to 100. 85 or more means the whole sentence came through clearly.
Can I check any sentence?
Yes, any English sentence up to 300 characters. Short, everyday sentences give the most useful feedback.
Why does it say I said a different sentence?
When fewer than 40% of the words match, you most likely read something else, so Lin doesn't give sound tips for that try.
Is my recording stored?
No. The recording goes to speech recognition and is discarded. The sentence, what was heard and the score are kept in your practice history, which you can delete.
Which browsers work?
Current Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, on a computer or a phone, once you allow the microphone.
Does it work for British or American English?
It checks whether your words come through clearly, not which accent you use. Either is fine.
Where can I practise whole conversations?
Every scene on Lin Says has the same checker for each line, followed by a role-play with an AI partner. Start with the scene library.
Is this a test or a certificate?
No. Lin gives no exam scores and does not certify a level.
