What does “at least” mean?
"At least" has two main jobs. It can show one good side in a bad situation, or it can mean the minimum amount or action that is acceptable.
When people say it
- To comfort someone or find a small positive point: "We missed the bus, but at least it's not raining."
- To ask for a minimum action: "Could you at least text me?"
- To talk about a minimum number, time, or amount: "It'll take at least ten minutes."
- To point out the less bad option in a bad situation: "At least it's not freezing."
Tone: It is neutral and very common in speech, but it can sound dismissive if you say it too quickly after someone shares bad news.

No. "At least" means "minimum" or "one good side". "At last" means "finally".
Can "at least" sound rude?
Yes, sometimes. If someone is upset and you say "At least..." too fast, it may sound like you are not taking their feelings seriously.
