“up for…”の意味は？
"be up for" は、何かをしたい、または興味があるという意味です。ただし、"sign up for" や "line up for" のような表現では、"up for" だけでなく、動詞のまとまり全体で読む必要があります。
こう言う場面
- "be up for" + 名詞 / -ing: したい、または興味がある。例: "Are you up for karaoke?"
- "sign up for" + class, event, membership: 登録する。例: "Can I sign up for a membership today?"
- "line up for" + tickets, food, service: 並んで待つ。例: "Fans lined up for tickets." イギリス英語では、よく "queue for" と言います。
- ときには、形はただの動詞 + "up" で、"for someone" は、その動作の相手を表します。これは "up for" という表現ではありません。例: "Could you heat this up for me?"
