“end up”の意味は？
"End up" は、いろいろな過程や出来事のあとに、最終的な結果・状態・場所にたどり着くことを意味します。予定どおりでないこともよくあります。会話でとてもよく使われます。
こう言う場面
- 最終的な場所について: "We walked around and ended up by the river."
- 最終的な結果について: "If you rush, you might end up making mistakes."
- その人がどうなるかについて: "He studied law but ended up as a teacher."
- 物がどこに届いたかについて: "Did my package end up at your place?"
トーン： くだけた場面から普通の場面まで自然に使える表現です。予想外の結果を表すことが多いですが、必ずしも悪い結果とは限りません。
注意： "finish" の単純な言い換えとしては使いません。"I finished my homework," と言い、"I ended up my homework." とは言いません。結果を言いたいときに "end up" を使います。たとえば、"I ended up doing my homework at midnight." のように言います。
